November 1: Solemnity of All Saints

Communion of Saints with Resurged Jesus
From "The Life of the Holy God"
by Otto Bitschnau

History

The Solemnity of All Saints in one of the older feasts of the Church. The first time we hear of it being celebrated was in the year 373. Pope Gregory III set the date of November 1. On this day, we honor all saints, the ones we know by name and the ones who are known only to God.

Activity

Today is a Holy Day of Obligation, so be sure you go to Mass! Also, you should plan a special dinner or dessert – no fasting today, even though it’s Friday, because solemnities always take precedence. If possible, visit the graves of loved ones (you can also do that tomorrow, which is the Feast of All Souls).

All the saints in heaven, pray for us!
