Saint Theodosius Photo by Elena Chochkova |
History
Saint Theodosius loved the Lord so deeply, he wanted to spend all his time alone with Him. He tried to be a hermit (a religious person who lives all by himself), but he was so wise and holy, many others came to learn from him. So he started a monastery. But being around so many people who admired him was troubling for Saint Theodosius. He went up a mountain to live in a cave. He would tie himself upright with a rope so that he could stand in prayer all night, even if he fell asleep.
Activity
Saint Theodosius had a very humble life. In fact, he ate only dates, carobs, veggies and beans, and just a little of these things, because he was really only hungry for God. Here’s a quick recipe that will give you an idea of how Saint Theodosius ate.
Date, Nut and Carob Snacks
• 1 cup dates
• 3/4 cup walnuts, cashews or pecans
• 1/4 cup carob powder
Process all ingredients in a food processor until fine and sticky. Shape into 1” balls. If the mixture is too dry to stick together, add a splash of water and process again.
