June 6: St. Philip the Deacon

History

Saint Philip the Deacon was chosen by the Apostles to be one of the seven who helped people in the early Church. One day, he was traveling from Jerusalem to Gaza when he met a man who was chief treasurer for the queen of Ethiopian. The man couldn’t understand Scripture, so Philip explained all about Jesus. The Ethopian became a Christian and asked to be baptized right away.

Activity

Saint Philip the Deacon knew exactly what to say when somebody asked him questions about the Christ. How did he know? One reason was probably because Saint Philip asked questions when he was learning, too. It’s important for all of us to ask questions when we think of them, because that’s the fastest way to get the answers we need. Even if our moms or dads or priests don’t know the answers right away, they know how to find them. So ask questions!
