June 3: Saint John Grande

History

When Saint John Grande was only 19, he gave up everything and became a hermit, a person who hides away from other people to devote himself to prayer. Later on, a rich married couple gave him enough money to open a hospital, where people were cared for in a deeply religious environment A few years later, the Archbishop of Seville put him in charge of all the Catholic hospitals and nursing homes and care centers, and Saint John Grande made a lot of improvements.

Activity

Prayer is an important way to help sick people become well again. Make as many “Get Well” cards as you have time to make. The children should write, “I am praying for you,” and sign their first names.  Deliver the cards to a local hospital chaplain, asking that they be distributed to people who need cheering up. Remember to include everybody who receives one of the cards in your family prayers.
