July 8: Saint Grimbald

"The Evangelism of St. Grimbald"

History

Saint Grimbald was a monk who lived near France in the 800s. King Alfred invited Grimbald to England, where Grimbald took a leading part in starting a school for rich young people. He helped teach Latin, and he was honored as a wonderful teacher and confessor.

Activity

When we learn the people's parts of the Mass in Latin, that enables us to go anywhere in the world and participate fully at Mass. Today, learn to pray the Sign of the Cross in Latin. Your family can pray it in Latin at least once a day - maybe before your evening meal together or to close out your family prayers before the children go to bed. Because this prayer is short, it's a good first Latin prayer to learn.

Here are the words:

In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti. Amen

This is how you pronounce it:
In NO-mini  PAH-triss, ett FEEL-ee, ett SPEAR-a-toos SAHNC-toos. Amen.

Here is a very short video of a man praying this prayer, so you can hear it out loud.

Saint Grimbald, pray for us!
More reading for parents:

Last year, we learned about Saints Priscilla and Aquila and made our own tents, as they did.
